Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Monday tracking gains in the domestic equity amid positive global cues and sustained foreign fund inflows. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,237 crore on Friday, exchange data showed. Though, rising crude prices and fresh spike in corona virus cases weighed on the rupee and restricted its gains. Union health ministry data showed India's corona virus death toll rose to 13,699, cases climbed to 4,25,282 with 445 new fatalities and 14,821 fresh infections. On the global front, the US dollar touched a three-week high as renewed worries about a second wave of corona virus infections sent investors into safer assets.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 76.12, stronger by 8 paise from its previous close of 76.20 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 76.1650 and 76.1000 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 76.21 and for Euro stood at 85.41 on June 19, 2020. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 71.27, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 94.79.
