The stand-off between landless labourers, who have been marching from Gwalior to New Delhi for the past nine days demanding a national land reform policy, ended on Thursday, when NGO Ekta Parishad, led the Satyagraha march, signed an agreement with the government in Agra. The agreement, signed in Agra, assures land for the landless on the lines of MNREGA.

More than 30,000 protesters from 26 states began the Jan Satyagraha march on October 2 with hopes to draw the Centre's attention to the plight of the landless poor. The march was to cover a distance of about 320 km by October 28, before culminating in New Delhi. Earlier, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh had met these protesters in Gwalior along with Minister of State for Industry and Commerce Jyotiraditya Scindia. However, the tribals of Gandhian organisation, Ekta Parishad, went with the march after their talks with Union government's representative failed. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had joined the thousands of landless protesters in Agra.
