Bihar Chief Minister (CM) and JDU chief Nitish Kumar dialled up Odisha CM and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, seeking BJD’s support for JDU candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh in the Rajya Sabha (RS) election.

With four days remaining for election to the Rajya Sabha (RS) deputy chairman’s post, Nitish Kumar has sought the support of his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik. The JDU chief told Patnaik that his party’s Rajya Sabha MP Harivansh Narayan Singh has filed nomination for the post of Deputy Chairman in Rajya Sabha. He urged BJD president Patnaik to extend his support to Singh to win the poll. The election for the post was necessitated as the incumbent Harivansh completed his term as a member of the Rajya Sabha earlier this year. He was sent to Rajya Sabha again from Bihar.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled from September 14 to October 1. The election for the deputy chairman is likely to be held on the first day of the session. The nomination filing process began on September 7 and will conclude on September 11.
