Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday amid firm domestic equities followed by positive sentiments across global markets on expectations of a corona virus vaccine becoming available by the end of 2020. Further, weakness in American currency, easing crude oil prices and sustained foreign fund inflows too strengthened investor sentiment. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 298.22 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, retail inflation softened slightly to 6.69 percent in August as price rise in some food items eased.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.40, stronger by 8 paise from its previous close of 73.48 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.4450 and 73.3300 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 73.47 and for Euro stood 86.96 on September 11, 2020. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 69.19, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 94.17.
