Rupee weakens against US dollar on Tuesday

29 Sep 2020 Evaluate

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking weak domestic equities as investors awaited fresh cues from the US Presidential debate and economic calendar this week. Further, concerns over surging corona virus cases around the globe and foreign fund outflows too added pressure on domestic currency. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded shares worth Rs 26.98 crore on a net basis on Monday, exchange data showed. Though, sustained weakness in the American currency supported the rupee and limited its fall.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.83, weaker by 4 paise from its previous close of 73.79 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.8650 and 73.7550 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 73.72 and for Euro stood 86.04 on September 25, 2020. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 70, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 94.05.
