Cabinet reshuffle likely after Dussehra

17 Oct 2012 Evaluate
Besides meeting of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is planning to go for a long-pending Cabinet reshuffle after Dussehra and the final decision in this regard is scheduled to be taken later on Wednesday.

However, the decision has come a day after speculation of forthcoming Cabinet reshuffle that gained fresh momentum on Tuesday upon the meeting of Prime Minister and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi with the President separately. Speculations about reshuffle in the Cabinet have also risen on the exit of Trinamool Congress ministers both at the levels of Cabinet and Ministers of State levels. According to congress sources, some young faces, considered close to Rahul, like Manicka Tagore and Meenakshi Natarajan could be inducted into the council of ministers and some young ministers like Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Minister of State.

With the left of six ministers from TMC, two to three Congress leaders from West Bengal are expected to be accommodated and a reshuffle of the AICC secretariat is also on the cards. However, changes in the government and the party could be taking place in tandem as there is a possibility that some of the ministers would be drafted for party work. Moreover, the exercise could be a major affair as the team would be leading the party in the next Lok Sabha polls.
