Gold futures finished lower on Monday, though rose more than 1% earlier in the session cheering reports that US congressional leaders reached agreement on a $900 billion package. The session saw a hefty profit booking of about 1.3% in the yellow metal thereafter, on account of high rebound in the dollar from multi-year lows to an over one-week high, as the investors chose US currency over the bullion as the safe haven investment in midst of new coronavirus strain woes.
Gold futures for February delivery was down by 0.3% or $6.10 to settle at $1,882.80 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile. Spot gold slipped 0.2% to $1,877.83 per ounce.
