BPCL spurts on announcing successful appraisal of Barquentine -2 well in Mozambique Offshore

Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) is currently trading at Rs 688.50, up by 7.20 points or 1.06% from its previous closing of Rs 678.65 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs 681.30  and has touched a high and low of Rs 691.75 and Rs 681.30 respectively. So far 84000 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs 814.90 on 21-Sep-2010 and a 52 week low of Rs 530.00 on 24-Feb-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs 697.60 and Rs 674.05 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs 24,892 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 54.93% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 27.79% and 17.28% respectively.

Bharat Petro Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Petroleum Corporation has informed that the well operator-Anadarko Petroleum has intimated that during the ongoing appraisal program, Barquentine -2 appraisals well has encountered more than 230 net feet (70 metres) of natural gas in high quality Oligocene-age reservoirs. The well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 4,100 meters and in approximately 1,650 meters of water. Also the first appraisal of Barquentine discovery matched the operator’s expectation, confirming seismic modeling and providing confidence in geological interpretation of this world-class accumulation.

The results of Barquentine -2 appraisal well, which is located approximately 3 kilometers east-southern of Barquentine 1 discovery well, also indicated that the Oligocene reservoirs are in pressure communication between wells. The drillship is now being mobilized to the south to drill the Camarao exploration well, which will also serve as an appraisal to the Windjammer discovery.

BRPL Ventures Mozambique B.V, an overseas subsidiary of Bharat Petro Resources holds 10% of participating interest (PI) in the block. Anadarko Petroleum Mocambique Area 1 Lda, an affiliate of Anadarko is the operator of approximately 10500 square kilometre block with a PI of 36.5%. The other consortium members are Videocon Mozambique Rovuma (10% PI), Cove Energy Mozambique Rovuma Offshore (8.5%) and Mitsui E&P Mozambique Area (20% PI). E.P a national Oil company of Mocambique holds the remaining 15% interest and is carried through the exploration phase.
