Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday amid sustained foreign fund inflows. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 986.30 crore on a net basis on Tuesday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, investors are focusing for the outcome of Georgia’s Senate runoff elections that will decide control of the US Congress. Though, continued increase in Covid-19 infections and lockdowns in major economies kept the rupee sentiment under pressure.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.13, stronger by 4 paise from its previous close of 73.17 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.1725 and 73.1025 respectively. The reference rate for the dollar stood at 73.01, and for Euro stood 89.41 on January 04, 2021. While the reference rate for the Yen stood at 70.87, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 99.86.
