The much awaiting Union Cabinet reshuffle is likely to be held on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Speculation about this possible reshuffle has been widespread in the wake of the exit of Trinamool Congress ministers and DMK representatives; A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran in the last two years. With this reshuffle, changes will happen in the ministries including External Affairs, and Environment as well as result in elevation of the ranks of several young Congress leaders.

The speculations about Cabinet reshuffle has gained fresh momentum after the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi met the President separately. As per the Congress sources, the reshuffle and induction could be largely from the party. This exercise would also see some of the ministers, holding charges of two ministries losing one of the portfolios. Among the young ministers, Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Jitin Prasada may get promoted to Cabinet rank or get independent charge as Ministers of State.

With six ministers from the Trinamool Congress leaving, two or three Congress leaders from West Bengal are expected to be accommodated. Moreover, this reshuffle has been considered as a major exercise, as the Congress party, yet to recover from the fallout of the 2G scam as well as Coalgate, has recently found itself battling fresh allegations of corruption leveled by activist turned politician Arvind kejriwal against Robert Vadra, the Congress chairperson Sonia gandhi's son-in-law and law minister Salman Khurshid.
