EC bans victory processions over poll results amid COVID surge

The Election Commission (EC) of India has banned the victory processions after counting of votes polled to the 5 states in the past few weeks due to increase in cases of COVID-19 across the country.

In view of the pandemic throughout the country, the Commission has decided to make more strict provision to be followed during the process of counting. ‘Not more than two persons shall be allowed to accompany the winning candidate or his/her authorised representative receive the certificate of election from the Returning Officer concerned, ’an EC said. The counting of votes will be held in Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry on May 2.
