Cotton arrivals from the new crop in India, which is the world's second-largest producer of the fibre until October 28, 2012 stood at around 8.69 lakh bales of 170 kg each, as per the report compiled by the Cotton Corporation of India. This is a fall of 33% compared to 12.96 lakh bales in the same period of last year.
State-wise, cotton arrivals from the Northern states stood at 3.18 lakh bales until October 28, 2012 compared to 3.79 lakh bales in the corresponding period. The cotton arrivals from Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan state stood at 1.49 lakh bales, 1.26 lakh bales and 0.43 lakh bales respectively.
The cotton arrivals from Central states stood at 4.19 lakh bales until October 28, 2012 compared to 7.28 lakh bales in the corresponding period. The cotton arrivals from Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh state stood at 2.32 lakh bales, 1.14 lakh bales and 0.73 lakh bales respectively.
Besides, the cotton arrivals from South states stood at 1.23 lakh bales until October 28, 2012 compared to 1.67 lakh bales in the corresponding period. The cotton arrivals from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka state stood at 1.00 lakh bales and 0.23 lakh bales respectively.
