Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday, despite volatility in the domestic equity market following corona-virus concerns in the Country. Union Health Ministry data showed India's total tally of Covid-19 cases crossed the 2 Crore mark with 3,57,229 infections being reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 2,22,408 with 3,449 new fatalities. Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,289.46 crore in the capital market, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth Rs 552.92 crore on Monday, exchange data showed. On the global front, the US dollar weakened against its major peers as an unexpected slowdown in US manufacturing growth prompted dollar investors to trim their bets.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 73.86, stronger by 9 paise from its previous close of 73.95 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 73.8825 and 73.8100 respectively.
