Govt. to review fixed cap on subsidized LPG cylinders, report

02 Nov 2012 Evaluate
As per the media reports, to unleash the big bank reforms and put the economy on track, the government is planning to review the cap on subsidized LPG cylinders that had been fixed at six cylinders per family per annum in September this year.

Further, sources revealed about the congress decision to increase the fixed cylinders from six to nine will be taken into consideration only after due consultations. The cap has been fixed by the government in September this year at six cylinders per annum and any additional cylinder has to be purchased at market rate, which currently is Rs 895.50. The decision will be in favor to reduce the huge fiscal deficit and subsidy bill.

However, the decision was criticized by the Opposition and many within the ruling UPA itself. Further, the government ruled out rollback of reforms and is willing to consider a review of the move as two key states, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat go to polls.
