Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Monday

02 Aug 2021 Evaluate

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Monday, supported by firm domestic equities despite rising Covid situation across the globe. Besides, weakness in American currency at overseas markets also supported rupee sentiment. Meanwhile, domestic investors will be eyeing to cues from the Reserve Bank of India's monetary policy meeting this week. However, unabated foreign fund outflows in domestic market capped rupee’s gains to some extent. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers as they offloaded shares worth Rs 3,848.31 crore in the capital market on Friday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 74.40, stronger by 2 paise from its previous close of 74.42 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 74.4175 and 74.3300 respectively.
