Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday

18 Aug 2021 Evaluate

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday as firm domestic equities supported the local unit, although high crude prices in the international market, resurgence of corona-virus cases and foreign capital outflows restricted the rupee gains. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 343.73 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 266.43 crore in the Indian equity market on 17 August, exchange data showed. On the global front, the US dollar held near recent peaks against its major peers as investors cut exposure to riskier currencies due to Covid-19 concerns.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 74.29, stronger by 6 paise from its previous close of 74.35 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 74.3100 and 74.2850 respectively.
