Today, Punjab AICC in-charge Harish Rawat has said the party will contest the 2022 Punjab polls under the leadership of Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh. He said this after a meeting with a delegation of Punjab Congress leaders including ministers and MLAs at his residence in Dehradun to discuss the alleged ‘incompetency’ of Amarinder Singh in tackling various issues in Punjab. A section of Punjab Congress leaders has expressed their resentment over Amarinder Singh to party high command and demanded removal of Amarinder Singh as chief minister, saying they have ‘lost faith in him’ over the issue of unfulfilled promises.

Harish Rawat has told disgruntled Punjab ministers that Captain Amarinder Singh will lead the party in the 2022 assembly elections and the demand to replace Singh will not be accepted. Meanwhile, Rawat also said the party had an idea of turning up of possible issues after the organisation changes in the state unit. However, he said that Congress will look into the matter and find a solution.
