Surprised and disappointed over the arrest, Finance Minister P Chidambaram has requested for the release of the man arrested in Chennai for taking photographs of him at the Chennai airport.
According to the Chennai police statement, 34-year-old Amir Tawah was not arrested for photographing the minister, but for breaching the minister's security cordon to take the photos. Tawah took pictures of Chidambaram as the minister arrived at the Chennai airport to catch a flight to Delhi. He has been charged with wrong restraint by a police sub inspector, who has complained that he prevented him from discharging his duty. However, the arrest has been take place after about 24 hours of interrogation and a magistrate remanded him to 15 days in police custody.
Though, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) sources have told the media that the accused was detained as the officer in-charge was not convinced with the man's intentions and hence was taken into custody as a precautionary measure.
