Telecom stocks ring loud as govt gives green signal for 4 year moratorium on AGR dues

Telecom stocks were trading higher as govt approved Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), Moratorium/Deferment of up to four years in annual payments of dues arising out of the AGR judgement, with, however, by protecting the Net Present Value (NPV) of the due amounts being protected.

Vodafone Idea is currently trading at Rs. 10.48, up by 1.55 points or 17.36 % from its previous closing of Rs. 8.93 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 9.82 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 10.50 and Rs. 9.66 respectively. So far 156449407 shares were traded on the counter.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam is currently trading at Rs. 19.40, up by 0.30 points or 1.57% from its previous closing of Rs. 19.10 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 19.60 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 19.75 and Rs. 19.20 respectively. So far 164256 shares were traded on the counter.

Bharti Airtel is currently trading at Rs. 729.90, up by 4.35 points or 0.60% from its previous closing of Rs. 725.55 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 743.90 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 743.90 and Rs. 721.30 respectively. So far 2819907 shares were traded on the counter.

Government has approved number of structural and process reforms in the Telecom sector. These schemes are expected to protect and generate employment opportunities, promote healthy competition, protect the interests of consumers, infuse liquidity, encourage investment and reduce the regulatory burden on Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
