Copper futures ended lower on Tuesday on demand worries following slower economic growth in the world’s top metals consumer China. Strengthening dollar and possibility of early rise in interest rates by US central bank also put downward pressure on the copper price. However, falling inventories kept a lid on losses.
Copper futures for December delivery lost $0.0420 to settle at $4.4860 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.8 percent at $9,788.50 a ton.
