Punjab polls 2022: Captain Amarinder Singh announces formation of new political party

Former Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh has announced the formation of his new party ahead of Punjab Assembly Elections. He said he will soon share the name and symbol of his party when it is confirmed by the Election Commission. The party is likely to form an alliance with a faction of Akalis and other smaller parties besides the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He added that he is looking to contest elections and his focus will be on forming a government and party will reach out to farmers for the proposed elections in 2022.

Amarinder Singh had resigned as Punjab CM on September and announced that he would be quitting the Congress. Last week, he said he would soon launch his own political party to contest in the Punjab elections. Punjab is slated to go to the polls early 2022.
