Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday as firm trend at domestic equities supported the rupee sentiments. However, continuous foreign fund outflows and strengthening US dollar with expectations of the US Central bank Fed will hike interest rates earlier than expected in response to high inflation capped further gains in rupee. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,637.46 crore in the capital market on Thursday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, markets now will be focusing on cues from the domestic inflation number due tonight after market hours.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 74.47, stronger by 5 paise from its previous close of 74.52 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 74.4875 and 74.3650 respectively.
