Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi has demanded Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s resignation over controversy concerning Finance Ministry’s role in 2G spectrum scam.

Joshi said that Chidambaram must resign and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) must probe his role in the scam. He further added that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee must determine the loss, adding that the note revealed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was kept in dark during the process.

Recently, Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy has filed a fresh application before the special trial court to include home minister P Chidambaram a co-accused in the second generation (2G) spectrum allocation case. According to Swamy, it is known fact that Telecom Minister A Raja was not alone responsible for second generation (2G) spectrum allocation. It was a cabinet decision and Chidambaram, as finance minister then, was part of it. 'Hence, as of now, I moved a fresh plea for summoning witnesses including myself and to make Chidambaram co-accused in the scam,' Swamy said in an application before the court.

Concerned over the issue Chidambaram had called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who is currently in New York. Chidambaram discussed the issue with Prime Minister who assured former to be patient till he returns home on September 27.
