In a serious blow to Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe into Adarsh Housing Society scam, a crucial piece of evidence -- a hard disk has mysteriously disappeared from the Urban Development Department (UDD) just days after a key file went missing. The special CBI court has been informed that one out of the 10 hard disks pertaining to the case has gone missing.

Earlier, sensitive original documents on Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society and containing the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest's (MoEF) internal notings, queries and correspondence with the Maharashtra government had gone missing from MoEF offices in Delhi. However, the missing files will not have much impact on the investigation since the CBI is having the re-creations of the originals.

The CBI is probing how the Adarsh building went up from six storeys to 31 and under what circumstances the society was understood to have received Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance. The agency is also probing on what grounds the MoEF passed an order to demolish Adarsh.
