Nifty ends lower on Wednesday

Nifty ended the Wednesday’s session on lower note. Mid- and small-cap shares ended on a positive note as Nifty Midcap 100 index was up 0.13 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose 0.59 per cent. Market made slightly negative start and turned volatile after government’s total liabilities rose to Rs 125.71 lakh crore in the September quarter from Rs 120.91 lakh crore in the three months ended June, according to the latest public debt management report. The increase reflects a quarter-on-quarter increase of 3.97 per cent in the July-September period of 2021-22. Further, market continued its trade between red and green territory as trafers were worried as Maharashtra's health minister Rajesh Tope said that Mumbai may witness lockdown-like situation if the number of Covid-19 cases keeps rising.

Most of the sectoral indices ended in green except Auto, Pharma and Consumer Durables. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Vodafone Idea, Laurus Labs and Eicher Motors. On the other hand, the top losers were SAIL, Dalmia Bharat and JK Cement. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 17350 -17600 calls and 16900 -17050 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.


India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility decreased by 1.41% and reached 16.24. The 50 share Nifty down by 19.65 points or 0.11% to settle at 17,213.60.

Nifty December 2021 futures closed at 17199.00 (LTP) on Wednesday, at a discount of 14.60 points over spot closing of 17213.60, while Nifty January 2022 futures ended at 17248.70 (LTP), at a premium of 35.10 points over spot closing. Nifty December futures saw an addition of 15,563 units, taking the total open interest (Contracts) to 1,56,761 units. The near month derivatives contract will expire on December 30, 2021 (Provisional).

From the most active contracts, Reliance Industries December 2021 futures traded at a premium of 1.00 points at 2399.00 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 2398.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 45,008 (Provisional).

Tata Steel December 2021 futures traded at a discount of 0.65 points at 1115.10 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1115.75. The numbers of contracts traded were 25,017 (Provisional).

SBIN December 2021 futures traded at a premium of 0.75 points at 453.95 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 453.20. The numbers of contracts traded were 20,639 (Provisional).

ICICI Bank December 2021 futures traded at a premium of 1.20 points at 734.05 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 732.85. The numbers of contracts traded were 20,599 (Provisional).

HDFC Bank December 2021 futures traded at a premium of 1.85 points at 1452.85 (LTP) compared with spot closing of 1451.00. The numbers of contracts traded were 18,043 (Provisional).

Among, Nifty calls, 17300 SP from the December month expiry was the most active call with an addition of 57,744 units open interests. Among Nifty puts, 17200 SP from the December month expiry was the most active put with an addition of 21,398 units open interests. The maximum OI outstanding for Calls was at 17500 SP (1,75,380 units) and that for Puts was at 17000 SP (1,96,215 units). The respective Support and Resistance levels of Nifty are: Resistance 17,274.15 -- Pivot Point 17,225.40 -- Support -- 17,164.85.

The Nifty Put Call Ratio (PCR) finally stood at (1.08) for December month contract. The top five scrips with highest PCR on Asian Paints (1.38), Escorts (1.28), Wipro (1.15), Titan Company (1.10) and GMR Infrastructure (1.05).

Among most active underlying, Reliance Industries witnessed an addition of 8,151 units of Open Interest in the December month futures contract, ICICI Bank witnessed an addition of 2 units of Open Interest in the December month futures contract, HDFC Bank witnessed a contraction of 282 units of Open Interest in the December month futures contract, SBIN witnessed an addition of 3,049 units of Open Interest in the December month futures contract and Tata Motors witnessed an addition of 515 units of Open Interest in the December month futures contract (Provisional).
