14 Jan 2022 Evaluate

Bond yields were trading higher on Friday as exports in December 2021 were $37.81 billion, as compared to $27.22 billion in December 2020, exhibiting a positive growth of 38.91 per cent. Exports for the period April-December 2021 was $301.38 billion as against $201.38 billion during the period April-December 2020, registering a positive growth of 49.66 per cent.

In global front, U.S. Treasury yields on Thursday fell, as risk appetite soured with stocks lower and investors consolidating positions that pushed 2- and 5-year rates to two-year highs earlier in the week, as they prepared for an interest rate hike in March and at least two more by the end of the year. Furthermore, oil prices eased for a second session on growing concerns that Washington may soon act to cool prices, while movement controls in China to rein in a COVID-19 outbreak weighed on fuel demand.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 1 basis point higher at 6.57% from its previous close of 6.56% on Thursday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading flat with previous close of 5.96% on Thursday.
