The Election Commission of India (ECI) today rescheduled the voting date for Punjab assembly elections to February 20. The state was earlier scheduled to vote on February 14.
The decision was made following a meeting held today morning to discuss the demands of Punjab’s political parties and leaders to defer the assembly elections. The request for postponement of Punjab Assembly polls had made by several parties including Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s party Punjab Lok Congress in view of a religious occasion-Guru Ravidass Ji Jayanti celebrations on February 16. The Last date for filing the nomination for the candidates is on 1st February 2022 and counting of votes will be taken up on 10th March 2022.
