A fire broke out in portion of the New Drug Discovery Laboratories located in the Chennai-based Orchid Research Laboratories, research subsidiary of Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals. The fire was brought under control by the Tamil Nadu Fire Services squad assisted by the Orchid safety team.
There was damage to office and laboratory equipment, furniture and building interiors. However, there were no injuries to anyone.
Orchid is a pharmaceutical company engaged in development and manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and finished dosage forms. It is also engaged in research of new drugs. The company was incorporated in the year 1992 as a 100% export-oriented unit (EOU).
