RIL to invest $10 billion on rolling out its 4G network across the country

20 Dec 2012 Evaluate

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) is planning to invest $10 billion on rolling out its 4G network across the country, a move that the company has been gearing up for ever since its subsidiary, Infotel Broadband (IBSL), won a license in 2010 to offer such services nationally. IBSL is the only company in the country to have 20 Mhz of pan-India airwaves that it can use for providing 4G services.

The company, which has been selected for providing voice call and video technology by IBSL, has selected SPIRIT’s software products for voice and video calls over long-term evolution or 4G instead of waiting for phone makers who are slow in offering handsets transmitting voice and video in 4G networks. Further, through Spirit DSP’s solution, Reliance will be able to offer its subscribers high-quality services as an alternative to Skype-an application for making voice calls using internet connection- over cellular networks.
