Wipro has signed up for Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to contribute its support to strengthen women’s role in corporates. It has taken this initiative considering India’s declining women’s labor force participation rate, which is currently 24 % (NSSO, Govt. of India, 2009-10), one of the lowest in the world.
The company has joined six other Indian firms including CARE India, Global Compact Network and UN Women who are also advocating Indian private sector companies to follow these principles. A research to identify loopholes within current corporate policies that limit women’s participation and involvement in the workplace, will be conducted by the consortium.
