A demand for holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha (LS), state assemblies and municipal bodies to avoid draining of national resources was made in the Rajya Sabha (RS) today.
The issue was raised in the a zero-hour by D P Vats (BJP). He said that all the elections be held at the same time to prevent the national resources from draining. The country ‘is in permanent election mode’ with some or the other elections happening in parts of the country. Continuous holding of elections, also drains the both manpower and material resources. He also recommended extending tenures of the state assemblies or using other way to help hold simultaneous general elections as well as those to elect governments in the states. Other Members also associated with Vats on this issue.
