The sowing of Rabi crops is in full swing and is progressing well in different parts of the country. The sowing area is however less compared to the area sown by this time previous year, as per the reports received from different states to the Ministry of Agriculture. The Rabi crop is been sown around 517.53 lakh hectare for 2012-13 marketing season compared to 518.88 lakh hectare sown for 2011-12 marketing season.
For 2012-13 marketing season wheat has been sown in 253.17 lakh hectare which is less compared to 257.15 lakh hectare sown in 2011-12 marketing season. Rice has been sown in 1.71 lakh hectare compared to 2.78 lakh hectare sown in the corresponding period of the last year.
Similarly, Coarse Cereals has been sown in 54.81 lakh hectare compared to 53.75 lakh hectare while Pulses has been sown in 128.26 lakh hectare compared to 129.39 lakh hectare. Separately, Oilseeds have been sown in 79.59 lakh hectare in 2012-13 marketing season compared to 75.82 lakh hectare in 2011-12 marketing season.
