Rupee strengthens against US dollar on Wednesday

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Wednesday, tracking a rebound in domestic equity markets, while a largely positive trends among Asian and emerging market currencies also boosted rupee sentiments. However, some gains were restricted with expectations of quicker interest rate hikes to tame inflation in the world’s largest economy, which could continue to push the American currency and the US bond yields higher. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market on Tuesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 5,871.69 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 76.43, stronger by 7 paise from its previous close of 76.50 on Tuesday. The currency touched a high and low of 76.46 and 76.31 respectively.
