Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) has bagged licenses for retailing CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households in the latest bid round. The company has won the license for a Geographical Areas made up of Banka in Bihar as well as Dumka, Godda, Jamtara and Pakur districts in Jharkhand. It also won the license for Geographical Areas made up of Birbhum, Murshidabad, Malda and Dakshin Dinajpur districts of West Bengal.
After this bid round, about 88 per cent of the country's area would be authorised for the development of city gas distribution (CGD) network to provide access to natural gas to approximately 98 per cent of the population.
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation operates two major refineries producing a wide variety of petroleum fuels and Specialties. The Company also owns and operates the largest lube refinery in the country producing lube base oils of international standards.
