Government agencies procures 160.57 lakh tonnes of rice during KMS 2012-13

During ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2012-13, the government agencies have procured 16,057,618 lakh tonne of rice, as per data made available to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The total amount of rice procured till December 28, 2012 during current KMS, is 301,244 tonnes more than the rice procured during the corresponding period of previous season.

The highest procurement of rice has been done in the state of Punjab amounting 8,544,190 tonne which is followed by the state of Haryana which procured 2,574,012 tonne of rice and Chattisgarh state which procured 1,741,290 tonne.

Recently, in 2011-12 marketing year the rice procurement by government touched a record 35.02 million tonnes (MT) compared to 34.19 MT procurement in the 2010-11 marketing year (October-September) period.
