State owned Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers Company (GNFC) would be installing fertilizer vending machines in Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat and Tapi districts of the Gujarat state. The company would be installing it after NABARD agreed to support the move and with the help of farmers’ groups in the respective district.
With the help of these vending machines, farmers would be to able buy fertilizers in the desired quantity as per the current practice where farmers tend to over stock fertilizers as it comes in standard packing of 50 kg and the supply is also irregular. These machines are designed to dispense fertilizers in units of minimum 500 gm and above and the company would ensure round the clock supply of fertilizers in these vending machines.
The agriculture co-operative societies will also be encouraged to install few such machines. The machine developed by GNFC can be installed in an area of 400 square feet of land or also near a petrol pump. In September this year, the company had installed first such machine in the country at NARDES Cold Storage, Zaghadiya in Gujarat.
