Government agencies procures 177.18 lakh tonnes of rice during KMS 2012-13

During ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2012-13, the government agencies have procured 17,718,657 lakh tonne of rice, as per data made available to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The total amount of rice procured till January 04, 2013 during current KMS, is 212,762 tonnes more than the rice procured during the corresponding period of previous season.

The highest procurement of rice has been done in the state of Punjab amounting 8,556,984 tonne which is followed by the state of Haryana which procured 2,583,216 tonne of rice and Chhattisgarh state which procured 2,341,456 tonne.

Besides, the state of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh also made significant procurement of around 1,718,052, 955,763 and 455,659 tonne of rice respectively.
