Around 124,102 tonnes of food grains has been allotted by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution to the poorest districts of four states at below poverty line (BPL) rate. The entire quantities have to be consumed before March, 2013. Out of the four states, Odisha has been allocated 84,746 tonnes of rice at BPL rate for distribution among poorest district in that state.
Also for the newly identified poorest districts of Alirajpur, Burhanpur and Dindori in the state of Madhya Pradesh have been allocated 35,464 tons of foodgrains which comprises of 7,092 tones of rice and 28,372 tones of wheat at BPL rates while the poorest district of Medak in Andhra Pradesh has been allocated 2,660 tons of rice at AAY rate for distribution to additional AAY families.
Besides, the state of Kerala has been allocated 1,232 tons of foodgrains. Out of this 472 tons of rice has been allocated at Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY) rate while 152 tons of wheat and 608 tons of rice at BPL rate for distribution in the poorest districts of Palakkad and Wayanad.
