Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday as the US Federal Reserve's minutes of the meeting held last month indicated a hawkish stance on rate hikes and likely either 50 or 75 basis points rate hikes in July to combat inflation. Moreover, persistent foreign funds outflows in the capital market also weighed on sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they offloaded shares worth Rs 330.13 crore on Wednesday, exchange data showed. However, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced a slew of measures to boost foreign exchange inflows in efforts to curb the fall of the rupee.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.03, weaker by 9 paise from its previous close of 78.94 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.0625 and 78.9000 respectively.
