Asian markets settle mostly higher on Thursday

07 Jul 2022 Evaluate
Asian markets settled mostly higher on Thursday tracking modest gains in Wall Street shares overnight, despite the release of FOMC meeting minutes. The US Fed officials said an increase of 50 or 75 basis points would be likely at the policy later this month. Japanese shares rose with gains led by beaten-down technology shares. Moreover, Chinese shares gained even as Shanghai reported the most virus infections since late May. Market sentiment was also lifted by the Institute of International Finance data showing $9.1 billion of foreign inflows into China’s stock market in June, bucking the trend in other emerging markets. The inflow data helped ease concerns of fresh COVID-19 outbreaks in China, which reported 409 new coronavirus cases for July 6, including both symptomatic and asymptomatic cases.
