27 new RS members take oath

The 27 of 57 newly-elected Rajya Sabha (RS) members took oath in the House today. They took oath in the presence of Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu in the chamber of RS.

Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, and Mukul Wasnik and RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary were among those who took oath. Out of 27 members who took oath today, 18 are from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A total of 14 of the 57 members were re-elected to the House. The 27 Members from 10 states take oath in nine languages like Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The remaining MPs who didn’t take oath today are likely to do so on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament. 

Meanwhile, PM Narendra Modi will meet newly-elected RS members today evening. BJP national president JP Nadda and Minister of State for Parliamentary affairs V Muraleedharan also present during the oath-taking ceremony.
