Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is reportedly planning to build and operate budget hotels in India, primarily focusing on tourist destinations. In the first phase of the project, the company is aiming to spend Rs 500 crore. The company is in discussion with various state governments regarding the project and proposals have been sent to respective state governments.
IRCTC is the only entity authorised by the Indian railways to provide catering services to railways, online railway tickets and packaged drinking water at railway stations and trains in India.
