Government agencies procures 259.62 lakh tonnes of rice during KMS 2012-13

During ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2012-13, the government agencies have procured 25,962,916 lakh tonne of rice, as per data made available to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. The total amount of rice procured till January 14, 2013 during current KMS, is 6% more than the rice procured during the corresponding period of previous season.

The highest procurement of rice has been done in the state of Punjab amounting 8,556,984 tonne which is followed by the state of Chhattisgarh which procured 3,030,869 tonne of rice and Haryana state which procured 2,583,216 tonne.

Besides, the state of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha also made significant procurement of around 2,051,081 and 1,124,446 tonne of rice respectively.
