Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Monday, supported by muted US dollar index and fall in crude oil prices. However, weakness in equities and foreign fund outflows capped further rise in rupee. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital market as they sold shares worth Rs 675.45 crore on Friday, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, investors globally are awaiting cues from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on July 27.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.84, stronger by 6 paise from its previous close of 79.90 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.8700 and 79.7825 respectively.
