19 opposition MPs suspended from RS for week

Nineteen MPs were suspended today from Rajya Sabha (RS) for the rest of the week from attending the monsoon session of parliament amid protests against the government over inflation. Yesterday in Lok Sabha also Speaker Om Prakash Birla suspended four Congress MPs.

Today RS suspensions set a new record with the highest number of parliamentarians suspended in a day. The suspended parliamentarians have been accused of unruly behaviour. From the first day of the monsoon session opposition protests have been going on over various issues like inflation, rise in the price of essential commodities.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan moved a motion to suspend 10 MPs, but when it was adopted by a voice vote, Harivansh read out the names of 19 members who have been suspended for the rest of the week. 19 suspended opposition MPs, including seven from Trinamool Congress (TMC), six were from the DMK, three from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), two from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and one from the Communist Party of India (CPI).
