Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Friday tracking firm trend in the domestic equities amid fresh foreign fund inflows. Moreover, rupee sentiments improved further by weakness in American currency at overseas markets against key rivals as expectations of aggressive interest rate hikes from the US Fed receded. Domestic investors are now bracing for the RBI’s monetary policy meeting next week, while a private report said Reserve Bank's rate setting panel would hike repo rate by 0.35-0.50 percentage points in an attempt to stem inflation. Foreign institutional investors turned net buyers in the capital markets as they picked up shares worth Rs 1,637.69 crore on Thursday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.41, stronger by 28 paise from its previous close of 79.69 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.5650 and 79.3250 respectively.
