Rupee weakens against US dollar on Monday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Monday, despite persistent foreign fund inflows into the capital market. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital market on Friday as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,605.81 crore, exchange data showed. Meanwhile, blockbuster US jobs data lifted prospect of aggressive interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve. 

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.55, weaker by 31 paise from its previous close of 79.24 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.59 and 79.45 respectively.
