Asian markets ended mixed on Monday, tracking mixed closing for US stocks last Friday as a stronger-than-expected US jobs data fuelled the chances of a 75-bps interest rate hike at the September policy meeting. Data showed that US non-farm payroll employment spiked by 528,000 jobs in July after surging by an upwardly revised 398,000 jobs in June, while the unemployment rate unexpectedly slipped to 3.5 percent from 3.6 percent in June. Meanwhile, worries over the US-China tensions on Taiwan also adding pressure on market sentiments. Japanese shares rose with optimism about domestic corporate outlook, while caution ahead of key US inflation data due later in the week limited gains. Moreover, Chinese shares gained after data showed exports grew 18 percent in July, sending trade surplus to a record high. But China’s overall imports grew slower than expected in July.
