Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde expands two-member cabinet; 18 ministers sworn in

Maharashtra Chief Minister (CM) Eknath Shinde today expanded his two-member Cabinet, by inducting 18 new members into his council of ministers. The cabinet expansion took place 41 days after Eknath Shinde took oath as the Chief Minister.

The 18 new ministers were sworn in as cabinet ministers at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai today morning. Governor B S Koshyari administered the oath of office to the ministers. Among the 18 new ministers, nine are from the Bharatiya Janata Party while remaining nine from the rebel faction of the Shiv Sena. The induction of 18 new ministers into the Maharashtra cabinet takes its tally to 20, less than half the sanctioned strength of 43 ministers. More ministers will be inducted in the next round of expansion which is expected to take place after the Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra legislative assembly ends on August 18.
