Rupee weakens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Friday, tracking strong American currency at overseas market and rising crude oil prices. Heavy buying of American currency by the government, defence and oil companies also adding pressure on domestic currency. Meanwhile, investors are awaited India's retail inflation data due later in the day and is expected to ease in July due to a fall in food and fuel prices, but likely to remain above the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) upper tolerance limit of 6% for a seventh consecutive month. Although, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital market on Thursday as they purchased shares worth Rs 2,298.08 crore, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 79.68, weaker by 6 paise from its previous close of 79.62 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 79.7225 and 79.63 respectively.
